#12 | | Newbie | | CPU: Core 2 Duo 6400@2.13 | | Reinstall didnt work. Hmm.. New mobo or new Gfxcard, both cost me cash. Mobo is cheaper but sucks to install .. I would love to get it black on white that I am indead running 4x and must have 8x... I dont really get why I get any graphics at all while not having the Nvidia drivers installed if its a hardware problem. |

But I'm still 99.99% percent sure it's the motherboard causing your issue. If you look on the net, it says on many sites that PCI-E2.0 Nvidia cards have trouble running on older chipsets (I think it's the chipset itself thats causing the problem not the limited 4x speed of the slot.)

#15 | | Newbie | | CPU: Core 2 Duo 6400@2.13 | | Your probably right. I just hoped I would have solved that issue with the flash downgrade to Gen 1. But I guess not. Time to visit my local mobo dealer .
Ill keep yall posted on any further crash and burns . |

#19 | | Golden Oldie Member | | CPU: Intel E6700 @ 3.2 GHz | | | M/B: MSI P45 Neo F (Rev. 1) | | | RAM: 8 GB Dual Channel DDR2 | | I've been using a MSI P35 Neo for several months now and am having no issues with the cards I've used: X1950 Pro; HD2600XT; and now the HD3870. The only real drawback to this mobo is that it has only one PCIe slot (just in case you'd consider Crossfire...which I don't/won't.) Otherwise, MSI has been great about updating BIOS and drivers.
Good luck....
But!, whatever you do, AVOID anything with a VIA chipset. I've nothing but issues with VIA-based mobos. They are more trouble than they're worth.

#20 | | Newbie | I was having a similar problem. I had a 7900 that just stopped working one day. I could hear the Vista sounds, but no display. I replaced the 7900 with two 8800s; replaced the mobo; replaced the memory; replaced the PSU - still the same problem! Everything worked fine with the native windows drivers, but as soon as I installed the nvidia drivers - nada.
On a far-flung hunch, I replaced the DVI cable from the graphics card to the monitor, and ta-da crystal clear image and no problems with the drivers. I have some theories (that I am still trying to wrap my head around), the main one being that the vibrations from the GPU fan somehow split one of the connections in the cable connector. I theorize that the native window drivers don't use all of the lines in the DVI cable, but the nvidia drivers do. Maybe this is all nonsense, but it worked for me. Hopefuly this can help someone else. Good luck! |
