4850 kicks ass. Yea it stomps the regular 9800GTX too. It's apparent that the 4850 OCs really well too (just not on the stock cooling) so aftermarket cooling is seriously advised. I wonder what 4870 is going to be like.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/147...sis/index.html

Its just a bit faster than 3870 sometimes so it wont be 15% faster than 8800GT( Call of Juares is other thing) Anyway while testing on my own its realy close 8800GT and 4850 so the strangest thing is that 8800GTS 512 kicks it sometimes but in other test 4850 chases 9800GTX so there is a chance that newer drivers will provide some more power!! Well lets just wait. Anyway right now You have big competition on these segment 8800GT/GTS and 4850/4850OC and thats great for us customers. Very nice card!! Well I hope 4870 will kick 9800GTX but i doubt it will stomb GTX 280 :-( maybe GTX 260 will fall

1 more thing 4850 has SUPPERB image quality!! Best ive ever seen!! Sure I dont know how good IQ GTX has but so far 4850 is the qutest

That's 3870X2. Anyway tweaktown are not to be trusted, ask any ATI owner who has tested recent catalyst releases and come up with entirely different results than tweaktown's crap. Maybe they used old drivers or the maybe the inclusion/exclusion of AA was different from other hardware sites. The majority of reviews show 4850 easily beating the 8800GT and more often than not beating or matching a stock clocked 9800gtx. I don't think it can compete with 260.

tweaktown is a dumb site... they just want to support nvidia... try googling 4850 vs 8800... u wont find anything.. bcoz its so close to 9800GTX...

this is the best site for any review...

Finally Anand says
Final Words

There's an unexpected amount of concluding we can do already based on these early results.
For starters, the Radeon HD 4850 looks to be the best buy at $199, even better than NVIDIA's price-dropped GeForce 9800 GTX. What's also unbelievable is that compared to the 4850, our beloved GeForce 8800 GT seems downright slow in a number of benchmarks - and the 8800 GT is only 8 months old. It's also very refreshing to see this sort of competitive pressure at such a reasonable price point, while it's fun to write about 1.4 billion transistor GPUs it's a dream come true to be able to write about this type of performance at under $200.
Take two 4850s, put them together and now you've got something even faster than NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 280 in most cases. It shouldn't be too surprising since 8800 GT SLI and 9800 GX2 both outperform the GTX 280 as well.
Our CrossFire investigation illustrated a very good point: AMD's multi-GPU solutions still don't behave as well as their single-GPU products, there are still cases where performance doesn't improve at all and that's where these large monolithic GPU designs hold their value. Hopefully with continued effort in the multi-GPU space AMD can get us to a point where there is no perceivable difference between single and multi-GPU solutions. Until then, NVIDIA's strategy will continue to have a great deal of merit - although the GTX 280 isn't the best example of that, at least from a gamer's perspective. On the CUDA side however...
We'll have much more information on the Radeon HD 4850 and its faster brother next week when we can completely unveil AMD's RV770, until then sit tight and be content with the knowledge that the days of the 8800 GT vs. 3870 weren't a fluke, the new mainstream wars are upon us thanks to AMD's Radeon HD 4850.

I don't like anand much either. At any rate the crossfire part of their driver needs a lot of work. Maybe it's because this is with launch drivers vs matured drivers, there's a good chance that the drivers (both 48xx and 2xx) will get even better. Does anyone know if VF1000 is compatible with 48xx?

Suprisyngly older cards have lower FPS that they had a month ago( same thing had place when GF9*** came out older 88** and R38** had lower FPS in test than earlier...how anoying cheating this is...) ???!!! No mather I think 4850 is very good card and it doesnt need help from tech sites Still I wait for 4870 If it beats my SLI set I may buy It. For now theres still nothing that could get my (private user) attention... It is still strange that 9800GX2 and GTX 280 gets kicked by cheaper 8800GT SLI or 8800GTS SLI / 3870 CF and nobody drops prices of these high end cards...

Well, there's a lot of surprise about how well the 4850 performs, especially from NV and NV's fans and fansites, and with the HD-IQ quality of ATI cards in general at least if forces NV to drop prices to be competitive. IMHO it's a win/win for us as consumers.
