That's would be an good move
i use to do that... but not anymore.. my 7600GT was a bios flashed one with timing tweak by me.. it was 18% faster than XFX7600GT F...

hay.. i was talking about the ATI stuff that was bought by Microsoft... ya... got it...

The tessellation Engine

The tessellation engine. - This isn't a feature of Direct X or Open GL yet, but Microsoft has planned to add it to the Direct X 10.1 API (Which may be renamed to Direct X 11).
Basically the The tessellation Engine will allow game developers to create extremely detailed terrains and characters with only a few polygons. This will bring it, Incredible amounts of detail while preserving processing Power, the GPU will tessellate a reduced number of polygons, in up to 15 segments per polygon.
Actually, ATI has already demonstrated this technology in the Ruby Tech Demo that was released with the 2900XT card, but proper game implementation probably won't see the light of day until late 2008.
ATI already have user base for the technology to become common in games, placing ATI ahead of nVidia in feature sets.

And i found this from a valied sorce that the 4870 1GB DDR five runs @ (2250MHz x2 so 5000)

Manufacturer: ATi
Series: Radeon HD 4k
GPU: RV770
Release Date: 2008-05-31
Interface: PCI-E 2.0 x16
Core Clock: 1080 MHz
Shader Clock: 1280 MHz
Memory Clock: 2225 MHz (4450 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth: 142.4 GB/sec
FLOPS: 614400 GFLOPS
Pixel Fill Rate: 17280 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 34560 MTexels/sec

If that is true... then we have a monster here.... JAJAJA..

So you are thinking to wait for the HD4000 series? If your not so pressed for time then that's what I would do as well.

Did you click on the link? Notice that the word "this" is bolded and is a link to an Inquirer article suggesting that possibly, NVidia is behind a move by Ubisoft to remove DX 10.1 support for Assassin's Creed due to the boost in performance on ATI cards. Since Assassin's Creed is a "TWIMTBP" title, Nvidia would definitely have some interest in crippling performance on the competitors' cards since Nvidia has decided NOT to support DX 10.1.

Got it?

Hmm.... k

Sorry... so now i think..... i hate Nvidia... because of a simple reason that they are not letting the technology go further... we want to see games look so real... like a move... & if company's like nvidia wont allow technology to grow.. then whats the point... people will hate nvdia for what they are doing with their power.. stopping DX10.1... they cannot decide what we should use... its consumers... its we who decide what technology we want to use... if we want DX10.1 then they should start making DX10.1.... and should not give reasons like what they are doing now....

Or els we will go for any company who can give us what we want...

Small company like Savage S3 is out with DX10.1, an 40$ card which beats the hell out of all 90+$ cards from ATI & nvidia..

If Nvidia is not able to comeup with DX10.1.....

then they should not say... {Giant in graphics card industry..}

muscle cars are powerful....... but when it comes to track racing they cannot win a sports car with lower power.... even with a big engine.. coz of lack in technology.. coz thats important....

Shame one NVIDIA...
please let technology grow...

They won't make DX.10.1 cards because they think it's not an big difference (or an major jump) for upgrade theirs cores for the 9xxx series who will make competition with the 4xxx series later (not the 3xxx series)

i think you're getting a clear picture of the situation now. indeed, nv has some very shady business practices and they would certainly love to crush all competition and charge thousands for their cards and stall or stop the advance of the technology. they are bucking up to intel now, getting too big for their britches perhaps...

but at least ati ain't dead yet.

i would really love to see another player emerge in this industry as well. i was hoping power vr would come back from the ashes one day, i really enjoyed their chips when they were around. were they an nec product? someone needs to come in and really shake things up.

anyway i think i said it before but it got lost in the mix, now is a good time to wait on the next generation of cards...

Just bought a Gigabyte 3870 512MB with Zalman to My nephew's PC and I got to say that the card is realy good. Just to make it clear it is a little slower than My 8800GT but still image quality is sweet + temps on card are very good (52 load! You can find 8800Gt with the same cooling system - Gigabyte, Asus...). So to fit with this thread - It's only a matter of preferences(OC, cooling system...) Personaly I would get a 8800GT OC but I also understand people who say 3870 ...
