CPU: E8400@3.6GHz (400x9)
GPU: GF8800GT SLI 512MB OC!

PSU: Chieftech 750W

Well in my opinion You have few choices, this is order what I would prefer:
1. 8800GT 512MB
2. 3870 512MB or 9600GT Amp/Sonic/Gs (pre-overclocked)
3. 9600GT
4. 8800GT 256MB
5. 3850 512MB

Personaly i have Bliss Gainward 8800GT 512MB Golden Sample which is pre-overclocked plus it has great powerful & quiet cooling. I must admit it beats a lot of much more expensive cards like stock clocked 8800GTS 512...

Ati is tech interesting but what will it give U in everyday usage? Simply 8800GT is faster than HD3870 and nothing else but price & performance counts. Image quality isnt realy bad on 8800GT, previously I had HD2900XT and I dont seemuch of a diference...

You can try to overclock but I dont think it would go over 8800GT. I suppose You could find a cheap 8800GT for ex lately I saw Leadtek 8800GT cheaper than 3870 and even 9600GT

Hmm... k but

what about.. DX10.1

in no time.. we will have all DX10.1 games right... then i will be in trouble right....? coz 9 months back when i asked for help... they said go for 7600GT and asked me not to go for 8600GT & said it will take two years for DX10 games to come out... but then.. within 2 months time... they released 6 DX10 games....[] so the mony was wasted..

Microsoft is very clear to all the game manif to use DX10.1 and the SDK is released... it is realy good... the best part of DX10.1 is... u dont need too much of power on the card...

For example: if i have a DX10.1 game... if i get 50FPS on DX10 card.. i will get 70 on a lesser powered DX10.1 card....

thats because DX10 2 texturs/cycle
&

DX10.1 3 texturs/cycle

So it should be good to go for DX10.1 card right and the DDR4's higher latency can be pached with a hotfix or a Driver patch... which is killing the Bandwidth...

Is that right.........?

Somehow I cant believe 10.1 was so good... Right now its useles and I doubt it will make slower cards beat the faster. Right now most popular games : Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Unreal Tournament 3, STALKER work better on 8800GT than on 3870...

ya the best part of dx10.1 is that it changes the way texturs are loaded and only a Dx10.1 card can do that... the DX10 texture loading is diff and the 10.1 is diff..

Go to microsoft.com

Microsoft's DirectX lead program manager Sam Glassenberg
says
Even though DirectX 10.1 will support current DX10 graphics hardware, today's DirectX 10 hardware will not be able to support all of the features of DX10.1, which includes incremental improvements to 3D rendering quality.

Switch to directx 9 and enjoy massively higher framerates. DX10 is still a waste.

True! to be honest I realy cant understand why making games look more colorful and shiny while they lose on realism...
