#1 | | Dedicated Member | | RAM: 2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333MHz | | Help me choose a laptop. Hi, I need quick help in selecting a new laptop for my brother. He is an architect so he uses Autocad, photoshop, sketch up and sometimes 3dsmax in addition it would be good for it to handle games. I ask because I'am not sure of what to choose specially whit the graphic card witch is better a pro one or a normal one. It is supposed to cost around 4000 PLN I did look on some laptops that I think are good. Please tell me what do you think of these or you can give me a better proposition?
So: IBM ThinkPad R61,Asus X55SV-AS005C,Samsung R70. |

But I wanted to know what you think of these? Well please give me your feelings about this idea. Coz we want to give him mobility. I've got another idea maybe we should buy him an normal PC with an external disk so he will have everything on that disk like all the programs and file and the he could just take it to his work and thec back to his home you think this could work out? Thanks for replays. |

#6 | | Master of Disaster | | CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4 | | Take it from me, im a 3d modeler i used 3dsmax regularly, you need some serious power behind it, atleast 2gigs of ram, rendering with 3dsmax (or any 3d modeling suite) is 100% cpu, so if you are buidling a rig for applications like that the two main things you need is a great cpu and alot of memory, DO NOT bother with a laptop, their power reduced processors just wont cut it
so...Go with the extrnal hard drive, honestly for the price of a laptop you can build a great pc that he will be very happy with, or you can buy him a weak laptop that he will get bored of very fast and will not even remotely satisfy his needs with thoes programs |

#8 | | Dedicated Member | | RAM: 2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333MHz | | Hi, well so this is what I think is the best thing to do we will buy a normal PC whit a internal hard drive on witch he will have an OS and a external hard drive on witch he will have all his files so he will be able to transport them to his office, will this work? Oh and by the way please check this hardware I choose:
Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3,00GHz(or Intel Core2 Duo E8200 2,66GHz depending on the availability of e8400)
Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R
GeForce 8800 GT Gainward 512MB GoldenSample(the version with the better fan)
GeIL Dual Ultra 2x 1GB DDR2 800 MHz 4-4-4-12
Asus DVD+/-RW DRW-1814BLT
WD Caviar SE 160 GB
WD Caviar External My Book Home 320 GB USB 2.0 & FireWire 400 & eSATA
Chieftec (CFT-500A-12S) 500W
Microsoft Windows VISTA Home Premium
This is all please tell me what you think about it. Maybe more RAM well I don't know? |

#9 | | Edelweiss Corporal | The only thing i can say something are the memorys , i have exacly same one`s.
Good cheap memorys. Litle high nominal voltage 2.1 .
But they have coolers on them . And i was able to OC them to 1067 mgz. (5-5-5-15) They getting warm this way. But also giving big time performance boost.
The system runs perfect stable.
