There's a distinct possibility you have misread my post.

I know you were talking about intel shared graphics UNix (and yes I agree they are really quite useless) I just wanted to show the difference between them and mobility 2600HD.

When I bought my laptop I thought it would be a blessing if i could play Crysis at all on it let alone be able to play at good framerates with reasonable settings! not having AA on is not the end of the world for me as I have my 8800 rig for when I really want to play Crysis anyway.

I am a bit disappointed though as nothing I try seems to work with O/c this mobility card!! I tried just increasing memory clocks whilst leaving the core clock speed alone and nothing happened - nothing worked, same as before the new clock speeds aren't being recognised at all and nothing has changed when i move the slider!??

This is really wierd, I have tried using Tray Tools (various versions) + Powerstrip + Riva Tuner - all the same, no change in clocks is registered.....?

Well it's pretty obvious that you laptop wasn't designed with overclocking in mind. How long does the battery last playing crysis?

*Cough* just over an hour... (yup, that mains adapter is pretty much a "permanent fixture")

I didn't expect to be able to o/c very much but i thought i might be able to take the speed up just a little. I am actually VERY surprised to find that I can't o/c this card at all!

I totaly newbe with Laptops , but i think its locked for a reason. Dont think its a BUG or something.

in other news . On my 9600 GT ther is no way to control the FAN . But dont get me wrong , the Auto work like a charm , when OCed it alway maitain temp of +-060c . And dont run faster that 70% . But its override every try to set it fixed .

dont know is this Rivatuner , driver , or card bug.

sounds like a dream... aka mision imposible IV

PS: is better to leave notebooks on stock settings they are ment for mobility not performance ( at least not the kind u expect from it )

I'm starting to agree ! I embarked on this "mission" when I still thought it was possible to o/c at least a little bit. Now that i've found out that I can't increase any of the clocks at all i'm inclined to admit defeat and agree that this is indeed "mission impossible" and its never going to happen. However I can still play Crysis on medium settings with good framerates and its the only game i've tried where i can't enable AA so its not the end of the world.

I have to admit I am a little disappointed though as one of the reasons i bought this laptop in the first place (with this cheaper lower clock card) is because i thought I would definately be able to o/c it and get some more performance from it.

Oh well, performance is still good and overall the whole laptop package with 17"/large HDD/2ghz core 2 duo was actually really good value for money.

laptops were not made for performence, they were made for spreadsheet and word and surfing the web, the futile atempts to make them suitable for gaming is only really realised with lower end games or at low settings

The airflow in a laptop, even with a couple fans, is incredibly limited, especiall if one of the fans is on the bottom for the laptop or draws air through vents on the bottom( so unless you had it suspended in mid air its not drawing a whole heck of alot)

that said, your components are already running at very high temps, especially under load, so simply, if you dont wanna fry the whole thing dont oc anything, its already running too hot even at stock

That is an very old view of laptops. Todays laptops can play alot of games with good graphic no problem (unless they have the intel onboard graphics). My almost 2 year old Asus A8Jm with a core duo (1.83Ghz) processor and a GF 7600 go (512mb DEDICATED ram) can play most modern games with no trouble. I use to play FEAR at max settings on it for hours. II also just played PORTAL on max settings with no trouble at all. I am going to be putting Hell Gate London on it next!

Hmmm , All three games are not that power demanding. Portal have very simple desing. FEAR is an "old" game. And for the Hell Gate London , hmm did play it on my old RIG. But its also looks very simple , and actualy i was dissapointed with this game.

And what i try to say is that you wont run "modern" game with decent settings smooth.

Same with new Laptops cripled with VISTA

. My pal got a one of the top , dont remember what brand , but the specs are nV 8series GPU , 2 gigs of RAM , some CD cpu. It costed alot , and cant run even COD4 at max (VISTA) Sadly ther is no XP drivers for that laptop, and he is not too good with puters. So he will not install anything that wont come from official site of the maker.

And i hold my point that , laptops are not good for gaming.
