Default Help Catalyst Installer 8+!

Please help, I have been having a really annoying problem with catalyst 8.3

I download the package but their seems to be no damn driver file included, all there is Installer manager + some free software but no driver!

where can i get the driver from?? this is really stupid and annoying installer system!

(I have a mobility radeon 2600HD in my new laptop and i want to update to latest driver so i deleted all previous ati software, downloaded new 8.3 package and installed it but now graphics adapter has no driver -says "generic adapter" and i cant do anything).
Grrrrr and i thought Nvidia was bad!

I have already tried that I'm afraid and it still doesn't work there is still no driver file in the package when i open it -this is the same regardless of where i download the package from and its the same for both 8.2 + 8.3 - its really weird!

I think i have solved the problem now though! After trawling through ATI website for ages I found some small print that says that for mobility 2600HD the video drivers are not available at all from ATI or any other download sites !!!!!

You MUST go directly to laptop manufacturer website and download them from their support pages (mine is a Toshiba) so i have finally found a download link on the Toshiba website !! (this supposedly catalyst 8.4 driver btw)

This is the stupidest system ever and I don't know why the **** ATI can't allow you to download it directly from their website, its the first place im going to look right??!! At least they should make it very clear what you should do! ass****!

thanks for ur help anyway Imod..

Normaly for all the laptops you're supposed to download the propers drivers on the manufacturer website... it's about the same than the pre-build computers....

He's right. That's standard procedure for most laptops.

Sorry I missed this post earlier. The above responses are dead on correct. You will need to get the drivers for the laptop from the laptop manufacturer. It's the way the licensing is written that makes it this way.

There are some Mobility Modded Drivers available from other sites that may be of use if you want to go that route.

Well it seems that I am the only person in the world who did not know that. Considering that my GPU is made by ATI I dont think that it would be unreasonable to expect to be able to download the driver directly from ATI's website as normal like I have done with all the other ATI products I have used in my life.

I spent almost 48 hrs tearing my hair out searching websites and tinkering with the installer files trying to figure out why the hell their was no driver file included in the downloaded 8.3 + 8.2 packages. (this was very stressful and inconvenient)

The very least ATI should do is make it abundantly clear that you must go straight to the laptop manufacturer website. (they even listed a driver download link for the desktop 2600HD as normal which i attempted to download - so that would also have been a good point for them to post some information for mobility users. I blame ATI for causing me this large amount of unessesary stress!)

But again, thanks for the info guys, better late than never...

(P.S those modded mobility drivers might come in useful, could you post some links??..)

Thanks Dyre, I might give this one a try a bit later as this one seems to be a "DIY" driver modder, which i have never done before.

I was hoping you might know where to download some ready modded laptop video drivers for m2600HD? I'll keep looking anyway.
