Default Need help with Palit choice and (nvlddmkm.sys)

So, I have finally registered with NGOHQ. That being said, I have been reading these forums off and on for quite a while. I have come to respect the opinions and knowledge of the members here, so that's why I'm bringing my problem to you guys (and gals). I have been suffering from the dreaded nvlddmkm.sys issue for almost 6 months with my Sparkle Caliber 7900 GT. The problem started about 2 months after I started running vista ultimate 32 as my primary OS. This problem that I have seems to be quite common and I have tried all of the "fixes" posted by users on other forums to no avail. Before this problem started the Caliber 7900GT has been the best card I have ever had, I mean outstanding quality. After the problem started I have noticed, to my dismay, that card manufacturers just don't talk to the community anymore and we are left on our own to solve some complex issues. Although this isn't such a bad thing for advanced (power users) for most of us it can be quite frustrating. It is because of that reason that when I saw Palit_rma_guy posts here it was very refreshing to know that at least one company man isn't afraid to speak openly on card issues. So I am left with a choice of what card to buy next and I have chosen to go with palit, at this point, unless one of you with more info than I, can convince me otherwise, and I have to say a lot of that choice has to do with the seemingly "approachable" nature of palit as evident from Palit_rma_guy. The cards that I am considering are as follows:

9600GT / 9600GT SONIC

OR

8800GT / 8800GT SONIC

I would also like to hear your opinions on the 8800GT 1gb SONIC , as well as the "bang for the buck" factor. Or any other ideas and in my situation price does matter but I am willing to spend a little more for a superior product.

I would also love to hear of any info on how to fix the nvlddmkm.sys issue so that I can save my existing card to use in my old computer. Thank you all for taking the time to help out. PALIT_RMA_GUY please email me your contact info at nick@stsdigital.com

The Palit 8800GT is a great card, I wouldnt spend extra money for the 1GB version as the 256bit memory bus does not really show and gains performance wise

When my system becomes stable I will have a review of the Palit card for everyone I switched to an Intel platform for the first time in years and have been going through one issue after another. I hope my latest effort of switching out my ram solves it or I am gonna go back to the land of AMD real soon

are there less nvlddmkm.sys errors using an AMD platform? If so that's too bad since the newest reviews and benchmarks show that the nvidia gpu's are pulling better performance on an Intel base.

uhhhh i havent seen any errors and slowdowns with amd/nvidia base systems
but when u take a look on intel/nvidia combination you will see that some how nvidia cards are behaving better on intel chipsets (maybe because of chipset structure or something)
even with slower cpu

anyway i would take 8800GT sonic it is a great card
