CPU: Pentium D 820 2.8 Ghz
GPU: ATI HD2600 XT GDDR4
M/B: Dell DXP051
RAM: 2GB Corsair PC2-6400
PSU: Dell Stock 375W
Default What to buy?

I havent been on this forum a while. I need ideas of what to do. I got $400 CAD in total for Christmas ($402 USD) I eventually intend to build all my extra parts into a new PC. I intend to include the RAM and maybe the GPU. ATI has not been doing well for me. I am thinking of selling my Hd 2600 XT and using the money to buy an 8800 GT or GTX and a PSU. I also need a new processor. My current CPU stutters horribly when Im recording in Fraps. What should I buy first?

A suitable motherboard with the latest Intel chipset. Do that first to replace your crap DELL motherboard.

I would suggest Mobo and CPU thats what I am starting with myself. Even with that ATI card you have I think you will notice an improvement even it is just until you sell it and replace it.

But definitely Mobo and CPU first in that order

CPU: Q6600 @ 3.4 Ghz
GPU: 2 x 9800GX2
M/B: XFX 780i
RAM: 4096 Corsair 800 XMS2
PSU: Galaxy 850W
Default

for GPU you should get a manufacterer pre-overclocked 8800 GTS with 512+ MB ram e.g a pre oc BFG card, a bit more expensive than GT but the price vs performance will be worth it, however, your cpu might let you down a bit tho..

Changin your 2600xt have no sense, other parts are slowin down performance of your machine, imo:

OR.. get a stock 8800 GT/GTS 512, and overclock it yourself then you can edit the bios on ti and have the same/or better performance then the pre oc'd cards at a lower price. that what i would do if intended to by a 8800.

( i don't really think that paying for a oc'd card is something worth doing insted u don't know much about pc's and can't perform that by yourself)

ALSO.. please God ! change that cpu

Mac Daddy is absolutely right. Get your CPU/Mobo right. You can but all the video card you want but you will only be disappointed.

I would work on a PS as well. 375W is an explosion waiting to happen when you get your other parts up to speed.

My only prob is my chipset wont take a Core 2. A new mobo would be nice though.
