First off welcome to NGOHQ.com

ATI cards and VIA chipsets are known to have issues and have for years. Usually the motherboard site provides VIA chipset updates and fixes for the chipset. I had to update my chipset drivers when I first installed this X1950 because the performance was so poor.

You can also grab VIA updates here on the News section hope this helps

VIA Hyperion Pro v5.14A

Wierd, I installed an ATi X1950 pro in my dads computer that has a K8T890 chipset and it had no issues from day one. I guess its localized around the KT400....

As much as I hate to keep saying it, there's a definite compatibility problem between ATI video cards and the VIA chipset. AND, to be blunt, the main problem lies with VIA's AGP motherboard driver. There have been innumerable posts over the years about this issue.

Many people have found success by doing one or the other...or a combination of either...of the following:

1. Turn off Fastwrites in the BIOS settings;
2. Lower AGP from 8x to 4x;
3. Use the Microsoft AGP drivers rather than the VIA AGP drivers;
4. Boost voltage to the AGP bus by one notch in the BIOS;
5. Lower Hardware Acceleration by one notch.

To read many other options, you can check through the post on the VIA Arena forum here:

VIA Arena - VPU RECOVER

My own personal solution -- after too many problems with VIA chipset motherboards: Don't buy anymore motherboards using VIA chipsets.

If i use Omega Drivers based on the 7.10 Cat i lose smartgart and all AGP function if i reboot and it is a nightmare to regain it. If i use the Omega Drivers based on the 7.4 Cat if i lose smartgart then a powerdown and reboot forces it to run the tests again so i am stuck with that driver by the look of things.

Mainboard is an ECS KV2 Lite (yeah i know ECS are shit but thanks to AMD pulling Socket 939 i couldnt be too picky with the choice of mobo), the chipset is a Via K8T800 Pro.

I have tried every fix you care to mention and it simply doesnt work, the fault has to be with ATI not Via cos nvidia cards seem to work ok, it is the garbage known at smartgart.

I hate the drivers of ATI too......

But works.... the version 7.6 works....

Uninstalling all of Ati in the OS.... and applyng only the 7.6 drivers version (without ccc, framework etc....) run... and run good......

Before applyng the drivers of ATI, apply the VIA drivers... (the 5.14A in my case)

After, i use the ati tray tools.. and works all...... sure.

P.D. ATI Drivers has a really number of bugs, and not solution for now...

I hope you get it running well bro, keep in mind that when you are installing a drivers you uninstall the previous one, reboot, and then install the new one, reboot, and then your ok. Sorry if I misunderstood you somewhere.

XDDDD

- unistall all of ati drivers.
- reboot into safe mode
- run the 'Driver Cleaner Pro'
- run the 'CCleaner'
- reboot into normal mode
- install the 'Via 4 in 1' drivers (after install this, reboot)
- install the 7.6 Catalyst, but only the drivers. (after install this, reboot, and continue the installation of plug&play monitor)
- install the 'ATI Tray Tools (after install this, reboot)

I hope what you understand all, the english it's not my language...... XD
