I noticed he was being smart with you.

In all seriousness, though, the 2600 series is NOT a good option. One very important number to look at is whether it has 128 or 256 BIT. You want to stay away from the 128 BIT cards.

Talking I have a 2600 PRO .....

I have an ATI HD 2600 PRO by HIS (single slot) - I like it alot! I had a 2400pro before with a heatsink- and it had some problems with green macroblocks in video playback... So, with my budget being 100 bucks (plus shipping and taxes) - I decided to give the 2600PRO a try- I'm very satisfied with it's performance for it's purpose: Video Playback .... I mean, the intel X3000 video playback was very very good for an intergrated solution- i was surprised - but I knew that i didn't want a intergrated video card on my PC and wanted a bit more on the terms of video quality.....

I noticed that videos played back a bit more clearly and smoothly than on the GMA X3000 - I also liked the fact that the 2600 PRO has a dedicated video processor (UVD?) for HD Video (vc-1 and H 2.64).... I dont think i have yet used the UVD (unified video decoder) on any of my videos (they are all practically windows media videos and flash videos played back through VLC Player and windows media player) - but it is nice to know , that with the appropriate software and Hardware (Blu-Ray or HD-Dvd players- which ever one wins - Isn't Blu-Ray taking the lead? [last time i heard]) i'll be ready for a great HD Video viewing expereince....

Overall i'm very satisfied with my ATI HD 2600PRO video card!
For what I use it for, it is great!

If you want to do mainstream gaming- i would probably get a higher end card- if you can afford it

- Edward

P.S. That Unreal Tournament 3 looks mighty appealing to me! I hope it can run it on my system!!! I doubt it though

As for which particular card to recommend, it's really hard to say since we don't really know your budget. BUT, if you look at the Specifications of the card, almost any card with a 256 BIT and 256 MB DDR3 will perform like greased lightning. Otherwise, if you get a 128 BIT card even with 512 MB DDRx memory, you're cheating yourself.
