Default Never had an ATi and just bought one, heard lots-o problems with drivers...

I just bought a HD2600PRO *AGP* version. I read in more than a few places that ppl are getting BSOD's, lockups, stalls, etc. I think I recall reading the ppl having problems were using the drivers from the disc (Catalyst 7.9) and either had to roll back or something. I looked here b/c Ive been here before and downloaded nvidia drivers which were well optimized and am still using. I saw where there were 3 or 4 hotfixes in the files section. Should I use the Catalyst optimized drivers from here or what....Im new to ATI and I have heard driver issue stories since foreve.

Where did the 8.xx come from, I thought 7.9 were the latest?

8.x is a build number, it is Catalyst 7.9. If your motherboard is powered by a VIA chipset, then try to reduce AGP ratio to X4/X2 and play around with AGP Fast Writes.

you'll might gain stability
the speed difference between 4x and 8x is minimal to none

I noticed you were referring to a lot of fud and hearsay there.
I also didn't read anywhere that you were having the so-called problems yourself.

ATI literally has the best drivers in the industry right now, so I doubt that you will have any issues with that card, although it probably wasn't the best card to buy considering that ATI is making much faster mid-range cards available now, but that's your decision.

If you have a via motherboard, it is pretty much a requirement to install the latest via drivers.

Via had some pretty crappy older drivers (and boards) that can cause problems.
Use the latest drivers for stability and speed.

Nvidia has some pretty bad drivers too, especially with the nf2 and nf3.
Here is an updated driver for nvidia, which is fairly necessary for stability and speed on older boards.
It's sad that nvidia did not officially release these updates themselves.
nForce 11.10 Unified Remix (x32/x64)

If you are playing any recent games or just want maximum performance with your card, a hotfix driver was recently released here: AMD Customer Care

You can also use Ati Tray Tools instead of installing the CCC, whatever you prefer.
ATI Tray Tools

I wouldn't use any "optimized" drivers if I was you either, most of the reliable driver sites quit modding ATI drivers, and all that's left is outdated stuff.
You're far better off to use stock.

BTW, I find it really funny that there hasn't been any recent ATI releases from the mod scene, especially with the fiasco nvidia put them through.

You'd have thought sites would have dropped nvidia altogether, but no...

I was skeptical too before i bought my new card, there's alot of haters out there spreading alot of totaly false bs, i love my radeon x1950 ive been very happy and have had no problems with it at all.

@asdfXTXUltraPro do you know if thoes 7.9 hotfix drivers are apart of the 8.42 beta drivers?
