My dad recently bought a PCI-E skt 939 motherboard with an ATI HD2600Pro. Previously it was AGP motherboard with ASUS N6600GT. (see config in signature for details)
I installed the ATI Catalyst 7.9 Drivers on the card. But in STALKER, i get random lockups in the game, at irregular intervals. This also happened with the previous config he had with NGO Nvidia Drivers.
Any ideas would help.

Also stalker is very poorly coded, its always had lag issues so could be just that, but take a romp through the processes, try turning off ones that dont need to be there and give it a go.

#5 | | Master of Disaster | | CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4 | | It could just be the game, stalker is pretty system intensive, like i said the engine wasnt built all that well, it doesnt make the best use of resources, i have the same cpu and have noticed simmilar random bits of lag, if you havent already done so, try updating to the latest version, i think its 1.004, but other then that theres not much you can do asside from turning down some of the ingame settings. As a comparison ive got Bioshock on here right now running perfectly smooth at max settings but stalker gets that random bit of lag you speak of at max settings. |

2x Anti aliasing
Object dynamic lighting

And i seriously doubt that a p4 3ghz is better then a AMD 3200+

Open it with Notepad, find the line that says "render render_2 (or 2a)" and change it to "render render_1"
Save changes and start the game
p.s.add this i think your father is going to like it http://www.ngohq.com/47116-post43.html
