#1 | | Master of Disaster | | CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4 | | Any tips for setting up a new ATI card? Hey guys,
Well i put an order in for a x1950 pro agp, just got the call that its in so ill be going to pick it up on monday.
Ive never set up a ati card before, i cant imagine its too much different then a nvidia card but i figured id see what you guys suggest.
Im not sure which version of the catalyst to grab, theres a bunch and then the bioshock hotfix which is 3 times the size of the normal ones (?) should i just grab that one right off, or install one of the normal ones first? As per the drivers, should i just go with the latest ones?
Also, is there anything i need to do to prep the system for the new card? im running an nvidia card right now, id assume i just need to uninstall that right?
Thanks guys

But as for performence pci actually offers absolutly no performence increase over agp as the botleneck is not at the slot, new cards cant even take full advantage of what agp 8x can put out, let alone the pci-e, id imaigine when they start putting some crazy cpu's out there then the pci-e will really be worth it.
Which version of the catalyst should i get? should i go straight to the bio shock hotfix or get one of the normal version first?
Also im really hoping that there wont be any bugs lol

#10 | | Master of Disaster | | CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4 | | Oh wait, the catalyst comtains the drivers? im sorry to bother you this much but ive never set up a ATI card before, i extracted the contents of that catalyst 8.41 and there is a whole mess of stuff, do i only need to run the setup in the main directory, or also the ones in the drivers and ccc directories? and if more then one then in which order should the be installed?
Thank you for your help, i just dont wanna mess this up on my first go at it |
