Ati2dvag and infinite loop Dear people, this is my system :
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
MOBO : Gigabyte ga-p35-ds4
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM (DDR2)
Card name: Radeon X1950 Pro (512mb)
PSU : 850W
I bought this system 3 weeks before and from the first day i have crashes. It doesn't brings me
back to desktop, i don't have BSOD but i have just crashes. When i play a game, suddenly the
image freezes and then i 'm having a black screen and my pc is not responding at all, whatever
i do (CTRL-ALT-DEL) or pressing the windows key or ESC or whatever. The pc keeps working,
(no restart) but is not responding. I only have to press the reset key of my case to restart the
pc. Today, after another crash, pressing the windows key (I think) I got the following message :
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
The problem seems to be caused by the following file : ati2dvag
If this is the first time you 've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.
If this screen appears again, follow these steps :
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problem with
the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.
Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

I had this message after the instalation of 7.8 catalyst drivers and since the i always have this message with the same symptoms
I want to add that the card is not overlocked and the maximum temperature i saw is 76°C ,after heavy gaming . The temperature of my CPU and my MOBO is also also low as well. I’ m using the latest catalyst drivers (7.8). Note here that I had the same problem even with 7.7 drivers. I use the single drivers package (without the CCC) cause with CCC I got the : ‘’You do not have permission to change…..’’ error.
I live in Greece and the shop from where I bought the vga will replace it, cause it’s under guarranty. I want to know what do you think of my problem ? Is it just a faulty product or could be something else ?
What i did :
1.Use a lot of different drivers (even omega) with no result
2. Unplug and clean the vga (no result)
3. Did a memtest with no errors
4. Brought my pc in the shop from where i bought everything. They ran 3dmark06 for two days and one night without a single crash ! I never had one hour of gameplay without a crash. For the the product is not faulty.
Thank you in advance. Panagiotis |
