It is very nice to see such a detailed level of help, however, some of us have still had issues... I, for one, was two days too late to be able to take my piece of garbage ASUS AH2600 Pro back to replace it. Thus, I was forced to work through the problems and I believe now that things should be stable. Then again, I named my computer "Stupid" for a reason...
Well, onward...
I got the updates described in the first post, to no avail. I give in, figure out MemTest86+ (okay, it wasn't that hard. Shh). Apparently my RAM is bad. Fine. I take it in, get new stuff, it still doesn't like me. I take the whole damn computer in (warranties are fun) and they determine that the RAM I chose and my motherboard don't want to cooperate, and that this is a common problem with KingMax (avoiding this stuff from now on) RAM.
Replaced RAM. Good.
Crash. Bad.
I go, research and try out the
Omega Drivers to see how they do. No crashes... but only for a time. Eventually, they too serve to be no help.
I poke around my computer for a while debating what to do next. Wondering why I didn't think of it before, I run dxdiag.
It crashes. This seems like a very bad thing to me, so I harass a more technically-minded friend about this.
He suggests some
slightly older Omega Drivers and I get no crashes... For 5 days, anyway. I decide at this point to recreate my two old crashes, the one while gaming, and the one from dxdiag. Well, both succeed, much to my dismay. This does, however, create logs I can pick apart and examine.
Game crash:
Probably caused by : ati3duag.dll
Alright, I saw that one coming...
dxdiag crash:
Probably caused by : Cap713x.sys
But what in blue blazes is this?
Research...
It's something related to video capture... I didn't know I
had video capture with this thing... I don't even really need it I have a card specifically for video capture, if I can be bothered to install the software... Well, that aside, I disable the device.
So far, no crashes, but then, it hasn't been that long. If you need to find this device, in your hardware manager, it's under Sound, video and game controllers, and it goes by the name of ASUS Silicon WDM Video Capture.
I hope this helps someone out there!
[Edit]
Turns out this only helped one of my problems; the crash when running dxdiag. Hopefully this will still help someone.
