#1 | | Newbie | Radeon 9250 X64 drivers wanted please... Hi there, I am a newbie here. I have searched for all my keywords without success and I have seen the modified ati files available here for download, and I have also checked the official ATI site.
BUT I can't find the X64 drivers for the Radeon 9250 256mb. Someone said that they found working drivers here but I can't find them.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Further info.
It seems that ATi provide X64 drivers for the 9500 and everything later but but not the 9250. Someone suggested altering the 9500 inf file, but I tried that and that didn't work.
Windows is using the MS 9250 driver but it keeps doing strange things. turning the screen on and off.
My card is a Sapphire Radeon 9250/256mb
I am beginning to wish that I had never bought this X64 mb, processor etc.
Many thanks

#2 | | Edelweiss Corporal | You only chance is to use a eddited INF that includes the older model ATI cards. You card is not supported in X64 at all. So only this way.

#3 | | Newbie | Thanks for teh reply, I ahev tried to do that, but maybe I did it wrong.
I used teh inf file for a recent version, then I overwrote the 9500 line with the details from my device manager and from the old 9250 inf file that doesn't work
so it said this
"RADEON 9250" = ati2mtag_RV280, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5960
"RADEON 9250 - Secondary" = ati2mtag_RV280, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5960
ati2mtag DEV1002 is what it says in device manager currently
and 5960 come from an old inf for 9250 that used to work.
Any further help that you could give would be great. |

The fact of the matter is, the drivers do NOT support pre-DX 9 video cards. So, no matter how you would go about editing the .ini file, the drivers will NOT recognize or support that card.
The ONLY way I can even think of it being possible is if the 9250 was to be flashed with a 95xx BIOS. AND, that's not something I'd do if it were mine. A failed BIOS flash will render the card a fancy paperweight.
From all I've read about Windows XP 64-bit version, I'm glad I avoided it.

#5 | | Looking for a new start | | CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 B | | | RAM: 8GB OCZ DDR Reaper HPC | | There is a set @ PlanetAMD64 website that may work but they are old Catalyst 5.4 and the .INF from the NGO 5.4 X64 set
search this perhaps (wxp64_8_12_050317m_022144c) |

#6 | | Newbie | Thank you for all your help. I tried the link and search supplied by Chaos but I couldn't find that file.
I went back to basics. I had read somewhere that teh Catalyst 6-4 with modified inf file should work. I also read at that time that I needed to just add a couple of lines. That was what I tried, but as you know that didn't work. So I wen back and had another look at teh inf file, in fact if you need overwrite all the mentions of the 9500 card, there are 5 sections where it sis mentioned in lists and all these need to be changed to match your vendor and and card model, mine was RV280 ven1002. After that I installed just the driver first, that went ok, I was offered a list of two sets of duplicates
Radeon 9250
Radeon 9250
Radeon Secondary 9250
Radeon Secondary 9250
I chose the second option and it started installing. That all went well, the I installed the Catalyst and driver, as you can't select just the catalyst, and that went ok. It rebooted and in driver manager it says its using the Ati drivers not the MS generic one that didn't work. So far it seems to be working much better, the screen display is stable.
Many thanks to everyone who took the trouble to reply.
Dyre Straits, the flash BIOS thing is way too scary for me, but it was an interesting idea. And to be honest I wish I hadn't let the guy talk me into the X64, its been nothing but hassle, this may be my shortest lived pc.
He told me everything worked with it and I wouldn't be sorry. It doesn't and I am.
Thanks again. |

Bravo on your apparent success.
