I did the same you told. Normally the temperature of the Graphic card shows 60degrees. But when the game hanged and I quickly looked into the nvidia control pannel temperature that I kept open. It was 67 and 68 degrees.

Well now i think that your card is damaged for real . My 6600 GT run at 70 at full load , and i have no probs with it.
Also downclocking means , that you lower you memory and GPU clocks , example - my card stock are 500 MHz for the GPU and 1GHz memory . Lowering this clocks to lets say 400 for GPU and 800 For the memory is downclocking. OF course card that cant run at stock speed is bad.

Lol ... normaly an videocard is suposed to run at 90 C without artifacts i know when i brought my X1900 GT the most high temp i reached is 93 lol ! And works without any trouble !
