Default i need a bit of help plz

why have i got slow shutdowns ? i have done nothing to my pc there is no spyware or viruses and it takes my pc 4 mins to shutdown plz help

How long has this been going on? Can you please post your systems specs so we can have a better idea of your system?

Do you have Windows Update to automatically download and install the updates? If so, it's quite possible that an update has messed up your system. I've had similar instances in the past after installing updates. However, I do NOT let updates install automatically. I choose to download and install at my discretion. This way, if something does get messed up, I can uninstall the latest updates as I'll know almost immediately that it was an update that screwed up the system.

But, as was mentioned above, post your system specs, please.

windows xp pro sp2, amd sempron3300 , 2x512 ram , ati x800gto, biostar mb, 120gb hd , 450 watt psu ! (if u need anymore information plz tell me )

i havnt had a windows update in 2 weeks and its started since yesterday !! it freezes on my wallpaper for a while then begins shutting down but slowly ! i havnt added anything new or changed software settings ! the only thing i could think of is my soundcard is pi$#ing me off it wont let me uninstall the drivers fot it and it wont let me use my my onboard sound ! but i live with it lol ! hope this helps abit thnx

Ok first off NEVER have automatic updates enabled. Some of these updates recusrse a need for further updates and hence is the mindf**k we know as MS

Choose your updates selectively and check your task manager to make sure there are processes running there that you dont know about.

k no automatic updates ! but is 37 procceses ok ? most of um dnt make sence but i think there all needed ! but i cant blame the updates on the slow shutdown ! i might just use my spare hd and install xp and go from there !

download startup manager
and shut down some programs that you dont need

thnx !! i seemed to sorted the problem out !!
lol anuva noobey question...... if i took my heatsink of my graphics card ( back plate ) would it help my heat problems becuz tht heat plate burns my fingers ! would it b better wiv out it ??
