Default KDE 4 has been released

It has sometime since KDE4 has been released, Im a little late with this new (i have been reading about it and its really interesting a must see).

Heres some information:
http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?is...080114#feature
(DistroWatch announcing KDE4 in its weekly - it contains some instruction where to find tools or methods to install KDE4 in your favorite distro)
http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?ti...-release-notes
(Release notes)
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.0/guide.php
(Screenshots)

Most of the interestings links you'll find at distrowatch weekly page (first link).
I'll install KDE4 in my desktop soon and I'll post some screenshots too, that all for now.

It's not really ready for desktop users. There is 4.1 for that. This release is primarily targeted against testers and developers.

For 4GB there are lots of options. If it was bigger then 4.7GB (single layer dvd size) you
could really show off with those mammoth live distros.

You'll find some useful info here: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/
What kind of a live distro are you looking for (In terms of software/hardware requirements/graphics/ease of use etc)

For less than 200MB nimblex offers an impressive live KDE desktop which would definitely impress but since you have plenty of space you could very well go for something much bigger such as Mepis or PCLinuxOS(easy) / knoppix(lots of software). Pick any live distro really, they can all work from a usb flash drive.

Much more cheaper to buy your own flash drive and install it yourself.
edit: In fact for that money one could get a high performance SSD.

I can burn the Live CD ISO on the flashdrive, and run it in CD-ROM emulation.

Nothing is stopping you from installing a distro in a USB pendrive (its the same thing as installing it in a normal harddisk, partition your USB device and install you distro there -- Note: your motherboard must support booting from USB)

The screenshots are here;
Some details:
Things that worked:
- Konqueror and dolphin
- Some widgets (not all - the power widget doesnt get the % of my laptop battery neither shows a picture of the current state)
- KSnapshot (I used it to take screenshots)
- The kicker menu (its missing suspend2ram and suspend2disk buttons)

Things that didnt work:
- Kopete doesnt support anykind of chat protocol (bug only for my language or what? this is so visible they should have fixed this)
- A lot of icons are missing (I didnt check if they exist in /usr/share but they are not being displayed)
- No power management?

Thats all for now. I'm using Kubuntu KDE4 cd ( you can find it at the distrowatch page in the first post). I'll try to install KDE 4 in my opensuse installation later, I'm very impressed with the new KDE4 desktop although the few broken things, like Unixlord said its not stable yet so its not recommended to use for produtive system unless you're a kde4 developer.
