Default Flatout 2 Issues

Because so many people gave Flatout 2 a lot of positive feedback, I gave the demo a try and I liked it. So I bought it from Steam and took me a few days to grab it due to Steam content server horrible speeds. So it took me a while to grab it and I tried the game but it’s causing lockups and restarts on my rig. I tried everything and checked everything including many developer’s tests and it seems that the source of this problem is game related.

I wanted to check maybe someone has some secret patch or some workaround before I’m contacting the developer about it. I already checked that this game has some problems with dual cores, but I tried a single core AMD CPU with the same results, and even other graphic card as well. I also heard that this game is using Star Force, but the system is ‘Star Force’ free and I don’t think it uses it unless it’s on the game engine’s side.

Rege,

I'm not sure about the Steam released version. Is yours patched to v.1.2? That's the latest version after being patched. To be sure which version it is, use the Setup utility from the Start listing. It will show the version in the upper left.

I've played this game on three different systems and, when it first came out and unpatched, yes, I did have some of those issues.

ALSO, try changing the sound device. I seem to recall that using the Windows WAV device took care of this problem for many people.

It's an awesome game and lots of fun....when it works well.

I found by not using AMD's Dual Core patch results in less crashes in this game with my config

That's strange. I'm using the Dual Core Patch (if you're referring to the Dual Core Optimizer, that is) and I haven't had a game crash in ages.

I've pretty much completed the entire SP part of the game.

Just for a little hint: When buying new cars, concentrate on getting better HANDLING as soon as possible. Some of these cars are slippery as a greased rabbit at first but become more controllable when you upgrade the handling. Then go for faster speeds.

Correct me if I'm wrong but:
Dual Core Optimizer <> Dual core patch = MS Hotfix

I really don't know for sure. All I know is that I downloaded the one I have from AMD directly....not from MS.
