Yeah I had the same issues. Have you tried to apply the beta patch?

backup your saves in the My Documents/My Games/Oblivion folder, and also backup the LevelUpData_1.txt from the main install directory to backup save games. Both are needed. Without the LevelUpData_1.txt the save files are unable to determine what leveling to apply accross the game against your characters level.

Some .ini tweaks can cause crashing

you don't have to re-install game to revert settings back to default. Find the Oblivion game folder in your My Documents and delete everything but the Save folder.

I've been playing Oblivion since the day it came out. The only problem I've had is the tendency to create a Windows Error upon Exiting the game.

The game is quite sensitive to overclocking. So, revert things back to default and see if the problem still exists.

Yeah, one of the times that I let the MS "error reporting" tool do it's thing - I got a report back saying that there was a problem with "Morgan Stream Switcher". Seems that whenever it would change background music something wasn't working properly. And since you need that as a cue to know if something is attacking you, I don't just want to turn the music off.

So I tried an update for that program and it seemed to help some. Haven't been crashing as much on this system at least.
