I am running:
Nothing overclocked
Vista home premium 64-bit
video card: 4870 512mb
cpu: E5200 @2.5ghz 800 fsb
Memory: 4 gigs of memory, 800 bus, 2x2 gb
Motherboard: stock motherboard from gateway dx computer
Power supply: LSP 550 watts
Hard drive: 640 gb, 7200rpm, 16mb cache, western digital.
I applied all of the patches, what is going on |

I think it is something else besides the cpu, even though it is not that good for this game. Boosting the speed of my cpu will help though, since this game is a resource hog, especially with the cpu.

#4 | | Newbie | This game requires atleast a quad to run without any lag. I would recommend upgrading your cpu. |

I still want to do something about it (Overclock my cpu) for now, later I will get a quad core.
Can I atleast overclock my cpu, even though there are no settings for that in the bios. Is there any safe way of doing that, any programs, anything.
Will I have to get a new motherboard???

#7 | | Newbie | | RAM: 6GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 | | | PSU: 650W Antec True Power | | GTA4 Solutions. Hi Considering your spec you should be able to enjoy GTA at mainly high settings, with textures & other settings set to medium, the problem is more the game than with your hardware, you need to use the commandline tweak option, to do this you need to goto your GTA4 Directory and create a new txt file called "commandline" then copy these codes I have listed below.
-nomemrestrict
-norestrictions
-novblank
close the txt file and click save.
now when you return to GTA4 you will notice that you are able to set and choose the settings without the lock-outs due to insuffient memory etc, set the textures to medium, I would set rest to medium with some high.
try disabling some windows sevices or at least setting to manual, google a windows vista services tweak guide.
you could try downloading some modded ATI drivers. or google some GTA4 tweak guides, they are quite a few.
It may be more a drive issue footprint that is causing the problem try using driver cleaner to make sure all references to any previous ATI drivers & registry settings are removed, then install new ones.
There are a number of problems it could be, personally I think that Its not a lack of powerful hardware but a setting within windows or in game that is causing the major lag, your setup is fine.
good luck and all the best, it can take time to tweak GTA4 but believe me when everything is working good its worth it, I recently completed it, also try downloading a few GTA4 mods my most reccomended is the Enviroment Mod v3 its a massive 6GB but once you apply it you will notice the diffference, but make sure you are familiar with GTA4 commandline tweaks before using this and any other GTA4 mod.
Good Luck.

Good Luck. | The only problem that I have is finding the GTA 4 environment v3 mod, all of them are not even near 6gb. |
