sorry to here that. Go to your Bios and see if you see any frequency control if not then you will have to change the M/B or see if there is any bios update for your M/B. I think your gateway M/B is based off the msi ms-7399 not sure. If so you may be able to flash your bios with the msi ms-7399 Bios and unlock the Oc settings if the msi ms-7399 even has any im not sure. But this also could cause your M/B not to work or boot up at all and then you would have to buy a new bios chip but if you gatway is anything like my old gateway they soder the Bios chip to the M/B to make it hard to do that.

According to one program, the motherboard is msi ms-7399, and acorrding to occt the motherboard is. If the motherboard gets damaged from flashing it, and overclocking, will I be fine if I buy a new motherboard, and os. In other words I dont really care unless the motherboard gets damaged, just not anything else. I am planning to get a motherboard sooner or later. I am tempted to overclock, my cpu runs really cool at 28-30c idle, and 40-42c while playing gta4, with the stock cooler. 3.2 ghz is probably the highest safe settings for the cpu temperature.
Motherboard I' am planning to get
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...315&CatId=1533
Is this good for overclocking can't tell.
Hopefully the price goes back down to $100 by christmas
Any case suggestions for under $100, or slightly more if it is really good.
So far this is the best I think there is
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042
Cpu coolers is something that I really don't know how to pick out, definitly need help there!!
I'am very new to hardware installation, hopefully setting up everything else is as easy as installing a video card. That was very easy, easier than expected
I'am just going to go with a new motherboard, not planning to flash it
One last question, should I upgrade to windows 7 before or after my hardware is installed, if it does not matter than which one is simpler and has less complications.

Sorry m8 didn't see your post intill now. The hardware you picked looks good to me but I have never had A Msi so really cant say. As for a Cpu cooler I would try this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118046 People say its good. By upgrading to windows 7 you do you mean a clean install or just upgrade? ether way if your changing you M/B you should always reload windows so that windows can load drivers for your M/B. If you don't it may not work right like BSOD ect. From what I can tell the MSI x48c looks like a good overclocker
http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?PH...topic=116142.0

But every hardware Oc different some Oc very high and some do not.

Bye the way you do know that LGA 775 is phasing out ? LGA 1366 and 1156 is replacing them but if you wanted a 1366 or a 1156 you would need a new cpu and ram.

yes it will but do it after you get your new M/B not before. If you do it be for you will have to reinstall again. Some times you can get buy but your old M/B drivers could cause conflicts with your new M/B drivers.
