"Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney now estimates that videogame graphics will reach the point of realism in as little as 10-15 years."

#3 | | Golden Member | Tim Swiney... what a guy. If it talks like a pig and smells like a pig then it must be a pig... Apologies to all the pigs out there
Base line, I wouldn't piss on him to put out a fire. With his PC gaming statements in mind, I find it a tad hard to get him seriously.

people was saying that quad and 8 cores cpus will be on market 2015 LOL
but who would say that quad is out for long time lol
anyway realistic graphics could make a problem in a future
kids even with this graphics now cant see a difference in the real world and games (sad fact)
now we will all see what will future bring |

Then we might as well go outside and see the dirt in all its glory.
Then we come back outside that the dirt isn't gritty enough.
We don't need that much more realistic graphics. What we need is a far more interactive environment. Physics simulation is more towards the wave of the future, especially physics that matter. Right now, almost all physics are just used for visual impressions, nothing more.
What's truly insane, and I would have expected more from someone who understand IT theory, is how he talks about simulating human behaviour.
He's talking about creating a self-developing AI.
Of course we don't know how to perfectly simulate human behaviour. That's what AI reseachers are cracking their skulls on and these people know computing theory on a level that I doubt most game designers really know.
You don't need to model how human AI works. You just need to create an in-game AI that is smarter than your average rabid dog. It has been done. If Operation Flashpoint was able to create enemies that were not drop-dead retarded. Other games should certainly be capable of doing the same. |

no mates...
dx 11.. ray tracing.. etc.. new engines like cryengine 3 that is too heavy for today hardware...
i believe .. but i really seriously believe we shall have realistic gfx much much sooner then that!
cpu's are over-powered.. gfx for the new gen are way to powerfull as well!
in 3 or 4 years gfx will be realistic in my opinion! but that also depends on who develops the games of course!
if there were games to keep up with th hardware we have... oh my... |
