On a brighter note, think of all the money you saved on sound cards

There are a lot of people who really do take their hearing and sight for granted.
As an example of some really good games that I'm not able to enjoy:
Thief series games: Several of my friends have raved about how immersive these games are. I tried an early version and couldn't get into it. Then, a few years later someone insisted that I try, Thief: Deadly Shadows. The graphics are really good and there actually are some subtitles included. But, successfully completing some of the early missions proved futile. The reason being, that any of the guards or other characters who would be walking nearby was something I could not detect because there was no visual indication of their footsteps, how close by they were, or anything of that nature. So, there were just too many times I was discovered because I hadn't had any warning to find a place to hide.
There are some games that actually do give these kinds of ingame 'hints' so that there is some semblance of detection of sorts. But, they are few and very far between.
It's possibly one of the reasons I really like RPGs so much. But, I do like other styles of playing as long as I can follow the plot/story or other development and keep in tune with the purpose of the game.
