Default Crytek: Crysis cost $22 million, next engine due 2012

"Speaking at the outset of this year's Leipzig Games Convention, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli revealed that the developer's graphical tour de force, Crysis, cost an estimated $22 million to create. Yerli has previously lamented the effect piracy has had on the title, but reiterated that it's still recouped the development costs, saying, 'If it wasn't profitable I wouldn't be able to stand here.'"

Thanks Dyre Straits for the news. It might be better if Crytek can start making merchandise, imagine a Crytek mug, t-shirt, Crysis action figure, or something. Have they thought about licensing their engine as well? I like the company so it is sad that piracy is mentioned to have an effect on their Crysis title.

I agree that crysis was good, but the only game to come close to cinema quality graphics was Doom 3, although the gameplay was kinda monotonous and not that scary , the visual effects , lighting , light sourced shadows and textures were just awesome .

it still does i think, ogl can do about anything dx can do.

i was playing classic doom3 recently and i am impressed with the look of it. it is much better looking on the 3870 than it was on my old 1800xl.

if it has been a while since you looked at doom3 it might be worth it to check it out on a modern gfx card. ogl fuckin' rulez!...

Come on guys .........I agree the gameplay was highly monotonous but what I appreciate is the cinema quality graphics even till date i see no other game even crysis coming close to that visual quality , sure crysis has great visual effects and some good physics but doom3 graphics were closer to real life.

One more thing for those graphics at that time Doom 3 dint require a killer machine to run on , even at 640x480 resolution the game looked great !
