Default RB6:Vegas - Need Some Help, Please

Maybe it's because of my deafness, and the lack of subtitles in this game (which I really find deplorable in any game!), but.... I'm stuck and need some help.

I actually got this far in the game last summer and thought there was a bug in the game (under Windows XP, BTW) and found other games to play. Now, I've had Vista for a few months and have completed other games and decided to give this one another go. BUT...

I'm at the same place again and having the exact same problem. So, here it is.....

I've got my squad at the Dam and my objective is: "Track Down Irena Morales and Kill Her"

I've cleared out the bad guys in a warehouse facility where there's a computer that needs to be hacked. As I instruct Jung to hack the computer, we get another load of bad guys and Michael and I finish them off.

Jung is still hacking the computer.

Now...here's where it gets frustrating!

I wait a little bit and leave that little cluster area where the computer is and....no matter what I do...or where I go....immediately I get a "You Failed to Kill Irena Morales" message and it's a do-over mission....and over, and over, and over....ad infinitum!!!

I'm not sure I've ever had such a frustrating section in a game as this one has become.

Now, does anyone know how long it takes Jung to hack this computer? Does he continue to hack the computer even when I'm supposed to head up the stairs after Irena?

Without the subtitles, I'm completely at the mercy of any visual hints that he might give to let me know it's clear to go after Irena.

I like challenges in games, but, this has become more of a quest to get past this part and complete this game.

So....anyone with any hints, help, or aspirin for my headache?

This I already know. What I need to know is, When does the Countdown start?

Someone else said you have to wait until Jung says something about it's time to go. BUT, I cannot HEAR any of what is being said....as I'm deaf. And, there are no subtitles in this game.

If I go too soon, the mission fails. If I take too long, the mission fails.

It's times like this that I really, really detest the absence of quicksaves. As well as the absence of subtitles.

you go up the stairs and wait over at the steel door, if you've killed all the bad guys the door will open while your team is still downstairs and then you chase after irena and they will catch up to you. i'm pretty sure that's how it goes... ...i've had a few weird experiences there myself...

I really and truly appreciate you guys trying to help me out here. I've become completely frustrated with this part of the game. I've just about become an expert in killing off the first, second, and third wave of bad guys in this section.

The problem is, if I go to those stairs too soon, "You Failed to Kill Irena Morales" comes up. And, if I wait too long, the same thing happens.

Now, on what 'seems' to be the closest I've come to completing this, Jung was typing away on the computer, Michael was next to him and I went to the stairs. There are 'apparently' two more bad guys on the top walkway. I shot one of them, then shot the other and......."You Failed to Kill Irena Morales" came up again!

Now, another thing I know that causes this failure is if one of the bad guys destroys the computer before Jung can hack it. This isn't what happened on this last scenario I described. There were no bad guys downstairs at the time.

And, I've consulted with another group about this problem as I've become quite desperate to get past this point. Someone there said that there's supposed to be two more bad guys who fast rope down from the upper walkway and sometimes they don't do it. In this case, if the player tries to go up the stairs before those two guys fast rope, it also causes a mission failed message.

I certainly don't mind a challenge, but, this has really become a very, very near impossible situation on my part. Not being able to hear any voice cues, nor seeing any visual cues, it really makes it extremely difficult to get the direction and timing 'just right'.

I'm exasperated at this point and ready to move on to someting else.....almost!

EDIT:

OK, I think I'm onto something here. Stay with me now....

Once I've cleared out the wave of bad guys so that Jung can continue hacking the computer, I can check my Objectives map to see that the target has changed....to go up the stairs.

BUT, as I hit the stairs, another wave of bad guys fast rope down and they are shooting and destroying the COMPUTER that Jung is working on.

Apparently, I now have to come up with a way to take out this last wave of fast ropers to keep the computer from being destroyed so that I can continue up the stairs after Irena.

I'm not sure why Michael isn't doing HIS job of protecting that area as I have him still there with Jung.

Does any of this ring true?

sounds like you are doing it about right. there is a second wave of bad guys that you have to kill before you go up stairs. maybe if you force micheal to take a position downstairs to protect jung before you go upstairs it will do right. i had that same irritating problem before a few times but somehow i licked it. you may even have to help them beat those last few bad guys that come out as you are going upstairs. i can't really remember right now, i will try to play through it tonight and see. i guess you just have to do it in the right order.

also, are you using the latest? i think it's 1.6. it might be a documented bug for all i know...

i just finished vegas 2 the other day, it's a pretty good improvement gamewise but the story is still pretty vague...

I believe I got within one terrorist of getting past this insane part of the game last night. And, yes, I do believe I'm on the right track now and have given some thought to moving Michael out from the computer room before trying to ascend the stairs. I'm equally as positive that what's been happening is a terrorist...or two...have fast roped down and destroyed the computer while I was trying to go up the stairs after Irena. It's a crazy, crazy set of circumstances for sure!

Also, yes, I've got the latest patch for the game as well.

FINALLY!!! Yes, I finally did get past this insane situation and finished the game!

----SPOILER ALERT----

Here's how I finally was able to get this particular problem resolved and moved along...rather quickly, I might add...to the finale of the game.

I'd been too cautious/tentative in that computer area, apparently. I had been staying back behind Jung and firing at the bad guys from there. Also, due to Michael being shot over and again when he was outside this area, I was having him come inside the cubicle, too.

Well, that tactic seems to be what was drawing all the fire from the bad guys and destroying the computer that Jung was working on. I ultimately decided to try the following:

First, I sent Jung and Michael (J&M) back into the middle room from the equipment bin and the fenced area at the far end. This allowed me to move to the computer area and, once I clicked on the "Team Hack Computer" option, they would move through the room taking out a few of the baddies as them came.

Once I clicked on the "Team Hack Computer" option, I tossed three Incendiary grenades out around the perimeter to catch anyone fast roping down into the room.

Then, once Jung started working on the computer, I had Michael and myself stand OUTSIDE the cubicle and we fired upon anything/anyone moving. There were a few bad guys fast roping down...but, they seemed to come one at a time now. So, it was fairly easy pickings this way.

Then, once that settled down, I sent Michael to the first landing of the metal stairs. He spotted another bad guy or two and I joined him to take out any that were left up on the walkway.

Then....FINALLY, as the two of them re-grouped with me, there was that SAVING PROGRESS indicator I was hoping and crossing my fingers for for so long! I was ready to dance a jig around my PC at that point. LOL!

Anyway, it did work and this particular setup in this game was quite annoying with so much going on in so many different places. I certainly won't forget this part ... ever!

Talk about 'replay value'. Haha!
