ASUS A8N-SLI BIOS Mod

Eran Badit provided an article, dated 9-11-06, on upgrading the BIOS on an ASUS A8N-SLI mobo. I want to provide feedback on this mod.

I installed this mod on an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo. The new BIOS installed as directed. After rebooting, ASUS Probe informed me that a fan was not working; the fan on the nForce4 SLI chip. Turns out the Premium mobo uses a heat pipe for cooling this chip. I uninstalled and then re-installed ASUS Probe and the error went away. When the fan cooling the nForce4 SLI chip dies and the chip cooks, I'll understand the real error.

I was using the latest released BIOS for my Deluxe mobo. The Premium 1302 BIOS provided no additional features.

Lastly, I can't "downgrade" to the original Deluxe BIOS. If anyone knows how to do this, please pass on this information.

The chipset fan is always working. But the chipset monitoring inside PC Probe is not working... the solution is to use SpeedFan for chipset monitoring.
