Default Downloads Don't Work on First Try

This is something that's been going on for awhile now. I kept waiting to see if it would straighten out. It hasn't.

When I go to download from here, I have to go through the steps of clicking on the popup to grant the file to download. Then, I create my destination folder. So far, so good.

But, this is where the trouble starts. As soon as I click finally to save the file to disk, I get an almost immediate response that the file has completed downloading. It hasn't. Only a slight portion....just enough that it creates an icon in the folder.

So, I have to go through all the steps again and this time, with the destination already created, the file does go through the downloading.

Anyone else dealing with this?

This has happened both under XP Pro SP2 and Vista.

I'm also using the latest version of IE 7 on both setups.

Never had that issue with Firefox Dyre sometimes there is a delay before the DL starts but it always starts automatically here. If its the same under XP and Vista I would have to day its IE. Out of all the problems members have with this forum you seem to have the most.

The majority of our members and readers are using browsers other than IE perhaps its time to consider an alternative browser Bro ....

I've tried the others...e.g. FireFox. Simply don't like it.

It's not just the problem with downloads starting. This site also is the s....l.....o.....w......e......s......t...... to download from of all the sites I usually get files from. GameShadow, for example, I get 1 MB per second downloads. ATT.AMD I get 1MB r more - usually 2-3 MB/s. But, from NGOHQ, it's about like dial-up. I might get 132KB p/sec, if I'm lucky. It's strange and I do wish I knew the answers to the problems.

Check your pop up blocker settings and AV settings in IE7 as mentioned on the other occasions thats all I can think of.

I use FF its smooth and fast on here going through the forum. Certain DL's are slow because of the server load and our resources we have to provide that service. Other than that I have no further ideas I haven't used IE on a regular basis in over 5 years and I don't have the issues you have mentioned.

Hope ya get it solved and and run Spybot Search and Destroy if you haven't. Adware can cause pop up issues as well.

Do you have an Instant Messenger program open and active? I don't get any 'clicking' sounds except for when I have an IM program open. It lets me know when people are sending messages.

@Mac: Keep in mind I'm on Comcast Cable. We have an excellent ISP service in our area. My mom just switched from Bellsouth (the New AT&T) this weekend and is very happy. As for the speeds and response from NGOHQ, I wonder if it has anything to do with the site location and possibly Comcast not caching the site on its servers??

Going to uninstall / IE7 what a piece of shit I might better install Systemworks again
