I'll say this much: To me, it's among the better movies-made-from-video-games. There was plenty of action and plenty of special effects. Our local newspaper movie critic gave the movie a "D". I don't believe it's nearly that bad! I'd say at least a B-/C+. Anyone who played the game will see some nods to the game.
If I were casting, though, I don't think Mark Wahlberg would have been on my short list of people to consider. He just didn't have the .... "passion" .... for the part from my perspective. If this movie had been made several years ago, the guy I would have loved to see play the part would have been Mike Connors...Mannix...if you ever watched that show. In fact, playing the game, every time I pictured a human face for Max, it was Connor's face I would imagine. I'm not that up on today's actors, so, I really can't suggest someone current that would be my choice. I just felt that Wahlberg didn't quite fill the bill.
I also don't think the gal they put in for Mona Sax was ideal. I could very well picture Courtney Cox in that role. I think she would have LOVED doing something like this, too. When I played MP-2, I envisioned a tall, slim, brunette just like Cox.
But, these aside, I usually have to leave the movie at least once to make a trip to the mens room. I held my own because the action was quite intense and I really didn't want to miss anything.
All-in-all, I enjoyed the movie. I'm looking forward to seeing it on DVD to be able to understand the dialog now. [Remember, I'm nearly deaf] But, the images put up on the screen pretty well spelled it all out for me.
If you do go to movies, I'd like to get your take on this one.

| A little too old for that role, surely.

i'm sure anyone else in hollywood would have been more convincing, maybe even ice cube...
